The Story of Noble Ervin II

ne2logo

In this world, everyone is born with an Element: an extension of one's soul that grants them the ability to manipulate a certain type of matter with their mind. For example, an Earth person (a person born with the Earth Element) can move rocks and transform them into any shape they desire. A water person can control the direction of a river's flow. A wind person can summon gusts of air at his command. The list goes on. All through the power of the mind. Elemental magic has become an integral part of society; it is used in hospitals, construction work, stunt attractions, and of course, good ol' street fights. Fights are part of life. No, they are life. They are pivotal to resolving conflicts, forming strong connections with others and providing artistic expression. They happen everywhere all the time, and school is no exception.

Now we shift our focus over to George's 2nd Place Academy, a small unremarkable school in a small unremarkable town in England.

Meet Ervin.

This 14 year old boy, born with the Fire Element, has been determined to become a talented magician fighter since birth. He wants nothing more than to follow in his parents' footsteps, and they want nothing more than for him to get a real job. Unfortunately, neither cool magic tricks nor using them to beat the hell out of your opponent pay the bills in this world unless you're in the top 0.000001%. Regardless, Ervin tries to prove them wrong and clings on to the belief that he can in fact be that guy! His teachers don't think so, his friends don't think so, but that doesn't stop him. He tries all sorts of tricks and stunts over the course of life in secondary school, until one of them unexpectedly leads him to the dreaded detention room..

The poor lad has no memory of how he got here, or what he must have done this time to end up here. It's lonely. Very lonely. The loneliness makes him start to doubt his dreams. Before Ervin can completely process what's going on, he gets ambushed by a duo of rowdy older teenagers. They hassle him about some supposed deal they made with him:

Ervin had apparently agreed to track down four students carrying a Football ticket each and take their ticket through any means necessary (in other words, beat them up). It seems like a nonsensical made up story, but the look on the gangsters' faces... they remain fierce. Rigid. Cold. It's become clear to Ervin that this is no laughing matter, so to prevent the situation from escalating, he reluctantly accepts.

Can Ervin find all Football tickets? Can he officially pardon himself out of detention? Most importantly, can he assemble a team of 'Sidecasts' to confront the gangsters for once and for all? All questions shall be answered in due time.
